The Sheep Project

My mom asked me to sketch her a lamb. Here was one of my first attempts. I'll try and add some more of my drawings as I work on it. I was under the weather for about the last week. First Austin had a stomach bug, then almost a week later Wes caught it what seemed like two different times. He was sick for a couple days. He seemed to get better, then another week passed and he had it again! I thought for sure I was going to avoid it completely, but that last Friday it just came from out of no where! I just wanted to be a little girl again and have my mom take care of me! No offense to Eric! He helped me a lot! :) He took care of the boys and cooked meals. He even did Austin's school supply shopping! But, I just wanted my Mom! Moms....well... they just know what you need without even having to ask. They just have that nurturing maternal care that only mothers can give! That's how bad I felt! But, I am finally on the mend once again, just in time for the school year! Thank you! Thank you, God! I did a lot of praying! I am seriously considering a flu shot this time around! And I really hate shots. Can't stand needles. Eeeck! This was a rough summer! It felt like the winter flu season at our house! I think we did better during the winter season than we did this summer! Now that our family is healthy again, I hope I can resume more consistent blogging! :) Stay tuned!

Painted Ducky

I finally decided to try out a new medium. I picked up (or I should say Eric got them for me)a new set of acrylic paints. I have never tried them before. I have always wanted to see what the results are like with them. I see a lot of illustrations done with this type of paint. The colors are so vibrant. Now if I can just master some drawing and painting skills that would be awesome! I keep thinking it would be nice to sign up for a class! We'll see!

Baby Counting Book

I made this as a baby gift for friends of ours. They just had their first baby last weekend. The baby is just as cute as can be. I happened to know that our friend (the new Mommy) was a big fan of Padington Bear. When my mom was here for a visit back in May we went to a quilting store and found this kit. I knew it would be great to make. It was fun to make and went fairly quick. I think I'd like to make more just because they turn out so cute. I sewed it together with flannel in the middle to give it a little more thickness. Then I added a decorative top stitch around the edges because I thought it would make it look nicer. I was happy with the results. It's the first thing I've sewn in quite a while! I'm planning to get started on a baby quilt next.

Just a little bit of doodling

Picked up some kids art books from the library. So I have been doing some of the stuff in it with the boys. So far I think I have used the books more than Austin. But on the otherhand, Austin has been reading like crazy which is an awesome thing!!

Must Overdue!

Posting something here is so long overdue. I'm not really sure why I have been procrastinating adding something new. I'm still trying to draw on a regular basis. I've just been slacking on actually scanning in my sketches. I also haven't mastered sketching on the drawing tablet. Then once the school year ended the boys and I have been enjoying the pool and working in the garden. This past week we had more mild temperatures so we decided to spend a bit more time playing outside. We actually ventured out to the park. That was really fun and enjoyable since the temps didn't go up to 103. I was worried that we were going to be having an unbearable hot summer, but I was pleasantly surprised at least for this past week. So hopefully I will get my act together and post some of my work more often.
This sketch of a bear was motivated by the story in the news a while back about how a bear had been spotted running around our county. The bear was seen around for a couple of days and then mysteriously hasn't been seen again. So when the bear story happened I just couldn't help but to want to draw bears. Then of course with all the stuff about the Kung Fu Panda flick out....I have been on a bear drawing kick....hehehe no pun intended!:) This was one of the first bears I sketched. I used a couple of drawing books for some tips on how to draw the body shape. It's more of a cartoony sketch. I find there is so much more freedom with the cartoon types of drawing. They are also a much quicker process to draw. Easier to do when you face interruptions! I have a few more I have done, but I need to scan them in!

My First Self-Caricature

This is my first attempt at trying to do my own caricature. I have a couple books on the subject, but I've mostly just practiced drawing excercises in the book. This is the first one I've actually done on my own. I'm not completely happy with it, but it's a start in the right direction. I painted it in on Corel Painter using a mix of airbrushes and watercolor brushes. I also did some touch ups with the pencil tool.

Elephant Picture

This picture was painted in Photoshop. It is still a work in progress, but it's the most painting I have ever done in PS. It's a challenging program for me, but it is also amazing all the capabilities you have with the software!

Experimenting With Watercolors

I love elephants. They are by far my favorite animal at the zoo.

Venturing Into The Art World

I am taking a leap into the art world. Exploring new avenues of learning more about the process. Hopefully gaining knowledge and feedback in the process! I'm submitting for the first time ever to Illustration Friday. Hope all goes well. I'm a bit of a newbie at all this.
